A few years ago, I was listening to a radio program and the speaker talked about a bad attitude they had and what they did to change it. I wasn't in a positive place mentally or emotionally, so I took it as a challenge to myself and started my own gratitude challenge. I was astounded at the changes that took place in my heart and in my mind after just a few weeks.
I was recently reminded of my experience and so inspired that I put together a 120 Day Gratitude Challenge that I'm going to start sharing with you today.
This challenge is meant to be taken 30 days at a time, with each month focusing on a different aspect of gratitude. I am going to take you on an in-depth journey over these next 4 months, with us going deeper each month into a new area of growth.
A couple things to note about this journey:
1. Set aside 15-30 minutes a day of quiet time to really focus and reflect
*If you're not able to do this daily, choose a longer time period 3-4 times a week
make it work with your schedule, the point isn't to be rigid, it's to spend consistent time
each week reflecting
2. Get a journal or notebook and pen that you can dedicate to this journey.
*You will want to keep it in a safe place as we will be referencing the first 30 days of
this journey throughout the other 3 months
3. I will be posting the days up front for those of you who (like me) like to plan ahead
I will also be posting in my story, the daily reflection point
4. Distractions will come, and "urgent" issues will arise when you try to implement
any type of change or personal growth into your life. Be proactive in having solutions
so you can get the most out of your time and really maximize your growth.
Challenge Overview
1. Days 1-30 will focus on an aspect of humility - we will be diving into 30 things we are
grateful for, and the topics are already set for you
2. Days 30-60 will focus on Impact - we will be reviewing parts of our first 30 days and
I will have small (1-5 minute) exercises to complete as part of an impact we will make
together
3. Days 60-90 will focus on Reflection - we will be reflecting on the journey so far. Things
we love, learned and will change moving forward
4. Days 90-120 will focus on Growth - we will look at ways we can grow from our journey
I will be doing this challenge with you and will post about my journey along the way. I'd also love to hear from you in the process on how it's going, what you're learning and the impact it is having in your life.
Here are the first 7 days of our gratitude challenge:
Day 1 - Faith
*Write down 30 things/blessings that have come from having faith in your life
Day 2 - My Spouse/Significant Other
*Write down 30 things you appreciate, love and value about them. This can be character
traits, how they make you feel, what you love about them or physical characteristics -
preferably a mix of all of the above and anything else you can think of that would add value
Day 3 - My Children or someone who has impacted your life
*Write down 30 things you love and see in that one or those people
(note, if you don't have children, choose 1 person of impact as we will come back to this)
Day 4 - Myself
*Write own 30 things that you love about yourself. This can be physical features or
personality/character traits, anything that you love about being you
(note, this may be incredibly difficult and it's not about arrogance. This part is about
celebrating who God made you to be)
Day 5 - My Job/Business/Source of Income
*Write down 30 things that you appreciate about your job, business or source of income and
ways it's blessed your life
Day 6 - Rest or catch up
*Take today to rest from the process, review the week or catch up on any days you may
have missed.
Day 7 - Reflect
*Take some time to reflect on this past week and answer a few questions in your journal
1. What have I loved about this process?
2. What have I learned about this process and myself?
3. Is there anything I need to change to maximize my growth in this process?
Remember, this is about consistency and starting to see the world around you in a slightly different light. Take your time, set a realistic schedule that will work for you and open your heart to what God will do through this process.
